ROGAN.

The next day we went to the workshop. Vincent asked me to call him if anything out of the norm happened. I think the poor guy was starting to feel left out with us working all the time.

I wasn’t sure why he didn’t just join us at the workshop, but until this was all settled, it was probably best he maintain his strength. And the way to do that, of course, was to keep being a traditional vampire and only come out at night.

Sadie retreated straight to her office saying she needed to sort out the legalities of what might happen tomorrow.

So, Fridge and I were left standing in the foyer.

“Did you contact everyone on the list?” Fridge asked.

I nodded. “Yeah. They’re all coming in around noon.”

“Then I better start getting prepared for tomorrow,” Fridge said, indicating to the vault beneath the stairs. “Start loading up bags and kits for everyone.”

I nodded. “Okay.” I checked my watch. “We only have an hour, so I’ll get to contacting Shadow and checking on today’s bounties.”

Fridge nodded and we went in our opposite directions.

By the time the men that we’d invited to the workshop had arrived, my gut was in knots.

I couldn’t really believe what we were about to do. Part of me didn’t believe I’d gone down in the underground in the first place.

Fridge and I would have died without Vincent, and that was only against one vampire. Now we were going down and actually taking on the whole blood ring.

We weren’t going to make it.

“They’re here,” Fridge said, indicating to the guys milling around the foyer.

I nodded. “I’ll go get Sadie. Meet you in the training room?”

It was the only room in the workshop that was big enough for all nine of us and had a door on it. Just in case.

Fridge stepped back into the room, having locked up the front and the back doors, then locked us in.

The men were all standing around and Sadie was at the front of the room, wringing her hands nervously.

I walked up and stood just behind her, there in case she needed me.

“Thank you all for coming today at our request,” she said.

“Yeah, what’s this about?” Travis asked.

“Fridge wouldn’t say,” Tony piped up.

She huffed out a breath. “I want to hire you for a special bounty. A recovery mission, of sorts.”

“For when?” Trav called out.

Sadie glanced back at me and I stepped forward. Probably best we take it from here. I was expecting quite a backlash from these guys, although I trusted every man in the room with my life,

“Tomorrow,” I said. “And some of you aren’t gonna like it.”

Tony shifted, his wolf shifter instincts making him want to run. “How come?”

I sighed. “Because it’s dangerous. More than dangerous. Which is why we have you guys here, and no one else. We need people we can trust.”

Max lifted his chin and crossed his arms over his chest. “What’s the job?” Max was part dragon, part wolf, part bear. He was as big as Fridge, and more vicious.
